We have a winner!

Well... after the Texan basketball team lost three in a row for the first time since the 2000-01 season, the Tarleton men's squad downed Midwestern State Saturday, 66-62. The win came three days after the Texans fell to MSU in Wichita Falls and Tarleton opened the second half of the Lone Star Conference South Division with the win.

In the first meeting, the Texans' Cortney Hill hit a three with 10:10 on the clock to pull Tarleton within six. MSU then outscored the Texans 29-17 through the rest of the game to win 81-63, but the scoreboard looked like more of a blowout than it really was.

On Saturday, after some media throughout the conference had talked about the Texans who were picked to win first in the South Division were not as good as Tarleton had hoped.

So, the Texans - who have been in every game they had lost up until the waning moments prior to the MSU game on Wednesday - took it upon themselves to play hard and prove they might be down, but they are not out. They took the No. 8 team in the South Central Regional poll and played better defense while also playing better offense, and this time, Tarleton won.

Tarleton has three of the last five games at home in Wisdom Gym. No, no team has ever made the LSC tournament after starting 1-5, but the Texans are 2-5 now and if they play the rest of the season the way they played Saturday night, they very well could become the first to do so.

Afterall, eventhough this isn't the record we all hoped for at the beginning of the season, they are still competing for the right to keep playing. Tarleton is still the most successful men's basketball program in the LSC since the 2001-02 season. And there is still time for them to make the postseason.

The Texans are still playing for the pride of the program. They are still playing for me and for you. They are still playing for the power of the T. Most importantly, despite what some might say, they are still playing.
