Tarleton Football vs. Arkansas Monticello

Game Update:

> Kelan Luker takes a knee to run out the clock as the Tarleton Texans defeat the Arkansas-Monticello Boll Weevils by the score of 45-16. The Texans were helped out by the effort of Roderick Smith tonight who scored 4 1st half touchdowns. The Texans defense did their job holding the Boll Weevils to only 7 points until the Boll Weevils scored a couple of late game touchdowns. They also brought down opposing quarterback Scott Buisson 3 times after keeping consistent pressure on him all night. The Texans will look to continue their success next week on the road against the Northeastern State University Riverhawks.

> Arkansas-Monticello marched the ball down the field on a 6 play 80 yard drive that resulted in a 39 yard touchdown pass. The Boll Weevils attempted a 2 point conversion but were stopped just short of the end zone leaving the score at 45-16 with the Texans leading. With less than 2 minutes left in the game the Texans will likely run out the clock.

> Kelan Luker and the Texan backups entered the game in the 4th quarter and drove the ball down the field on a 10 play 45 yard drive. The drive ended with a 44 yard field goal by Garrett Lindholm. A little under 8 minutes left in the final quarter.

> The Boll Weevils hold on to the ball for 8 minutes and 42 seconds as they cap off a 17 play 87 yard drive with a 22 yard field goal. The Texans are still in control with the score 42-10.

> The end of the 3rd quarter and the Texans continue to lead 42-7. The Boll Weevils have put together a nice drive but was helped out with a 4th down personal foul penalty against the Texans to keep the drive alive. The Texans defense takes the field again to start the 4th quarter.

> The Texans continue the offensive show as Scott Grantham connects with Lester Hundley on a 5 yard fade route to the back of the end zone. Hundley went over the Boll Weevils defender to come down with a great catch while still getting one foot in to secure the touchdown. That score now puts the Texans up 42-7.

> Texans pick up where they left off in the first half scoring on the opening play of their first 2nd half drive. Evan Robertson returned the Boll Weevil kickoff to the opponent 47 yard line. On the next play Scott Grantham faked a handoff to Roderick Smith and threw the ball over the top to Lester Hundley for a 47 yard touchdown. The Texans defense held strong again as the Boll Weevils had to punt to wide receiver Devin Guinn which he returned to the Tarleton 35 yard line.

>End of the 1st half and the Texans still lead Arkansas-Monticello by the score of 28-7. Roderick Smith finishes the first half with 10 carries for 77 yards and 4 touchdowns. Smith's performance in the first half has tied him with the school record for most points in a half with 24. It also moves him within 1 of the school career touchdown record. Devin Guinn has 4 catches for 97 yards included a huge 49 yard strike to set up Smith's 3rd touchdown of the night. The Texans defense is doing their part by holding the Boll Weevils to 7 points and only allowing them to convert on 3 of their 10 3rd down attempts. Jamaal Steamer and Ben Taifane both have sacks on the opposing quarterback and have continued to get in his face throughout the first half. The Texans will receive the ball to start the 2nd half as they look to close out the season opener with a win.

> Roderick Smith continues his incredible night by pushing the Texans into the end zone from 2 yards out for his 4th touchdown of the half. The Texans now lead 28-7.

> Texans go up 21-7 after Roderick Smith's 3rd touchdown of the night. The drive went 3 plays 60 yards highlighted by a 49 yard completion from quarterback Scott Grantham down the right sideline to wide receiver Devin Guinn.

> Boll Weevils finally get on the board after a 3 play 70 yard drive taking only :59 seconds off the clock. The scoring strike came on a 46 yd touchdown pass from Ark-Monticello quarterback Scott Buisson to wide receiver Spenser Garrison.

> Texans increase their lead to 14-0 after Roderick Smith scampered around the left side for his 2nd touchdow n of the night. 10:25 left in the 1st half.

> Texans still up by 7 after the Boll Weevils couldn't take advantage of a turnover in Tarleton territory by running back Evan Robertson. A botched snap on the field goal attempt allowed the Texans to retain their lead.

> The Texans go up 7-0 after a 4 play 72 yard drive capped off by a 32 yard run around the left side by running back Roderick Smith.

The Tarleton Texans kick off their 2009 season tonight against the Arkansas Monticello Boll Weevils. The Texans come into the season off of their 8-3 2008 campaign and looking to improve on that record.
